How to get lean over Thanksgiving - Fitness Revolution Rowlett

No this isn’t a trick, and yes this is possible.

No this isn’t a smart a—answer that you’ll don’t have to skip out on the holidays or purge all of your food the day of, I actually did read that someone recommended this :-/

There is a way to eat stuff your face like a pig AND still lose body fat.

In fact this is a tactic that I have used multiple times with clients to help them drop body fat while still having a cheat days and meals on a frequent basis. [Read more…]

Who said I had to eat 6 meals?

Steve Reeves - Why six meals a day - Fitness Revolution RowlettWhere did 6 meals a day come from?

I mean does anyone really know?

We’ve been told for as long as we can remember that you’re supposed to eat 6 small meals a day, or eat small frequent meals throughout the day, eat every three hours, etc…

BUT the question remains… says who? Who came up with this rule?

Well,  if you were to Google it you would come across a bunch of self-proclaimed gurus or beginner gym rats that state this so matter-of-factly, but honestly I’m a bit skeptical to believe anyone that doesn’t provide some bio, credentials or testimonials that support them being a legit professional.

The majority of the info comes from magazines, such as Muscle and Fiction, or other media sources.

The most popular forms of media that cite or claim references do what is known as data mining; in other words they look to summarize an entire study or article in one or two sentences that support the media’s claim and in doing so they completely misinterpret the results or the purpose of the journal article.

There is a funny thing about media – even if it’s not true, if it’s published enough times it becomes true, no matter how silly the idea is. [Read more…]

Fasting and Muscles

Intermittent Fasting and Muscles - Fitness Revolution RowlettSlowly IF (intermittent fasting) is getting a bit more of a buzz in the weight loss industry, this is awesome because honestly IF just makes sense. Give your body a break from food; give it a break from having to constantly digest and breakdown what you feed it multiple times a day. The majority of our body’s energy systems are spent breaking down the constant bombardment of calories and is rarely ever given a chance to just work on itself.

Look at it this way; imagine that you are working 12-16hrs a day and never given a day off. Don’t you think you would hit a burn out period and things in your life would start suffering? Well if you’re eating ALL the damn time don’t you think that your body is going through something similar with you always asking it to breakdown calories? Give your digestive tract a damn day off lol. [Read more…]

Intermittent Fasting and Blood Sugar

Fasting and blood sugar levels - Fitness Revolution RowlettOver the course of the past several months I’ve been getting more and more questions about fasting, I guess people think I know what I’m talking about lol. Honestly, the concept of fasting is very simple… shut your mouth people; just don’t eat. THERE YA GO!

As I see more and more the concept of a person not eating every three to four hours really freaks them out. They want and have an interest in losing weight but not eating at all seems counterproductive to everything they have heard over the years. I won’t go into that dogma of media and bro-science in this blog but the point I was leading towards is that we are under the impression that fat loss is hard. We are under this impression that you must be on a complicated diet of 6 meals a day so the concept of fasting must be difficult… (I’m thinking… dafuq)? Let me just say one more time… fasting is simple, just don’t eat. [Read more…]

4 Things I learned in Sin City… among other things ;)

As I’m sure some of you may know, I headed out to Sin City this weekend for my great friend Justin Yule’s (owner of Fitness Revolution Chanhassen) wedding along with several close friends… who all happen to be in the fitness industry LOL. What can I say you are who you surround yourself with 🙂

Now what do a group of trainers do when they are let lose, well… we can save THAT conversation for another time but all of us of course sat down and talked shop in our down times when alcohol wasn’t flowing like water.

Talking to these other BAMF (ever seen pulp fiction?) trainers is always a blast because I get a chance to always learn new things, and its exciting to see the results they deliver and HOW we can deliver better and faster results. Sometimes I almost think it’s a competition on what trainer can cause the greatest change in a client.

So what all did I learn in Sin city besides alcohol is INSANELY expensive and I’ve never seen so much “paid” company in my life? A few things in particular really stick out to me:

Buff men and pink drinks…

Some Intermittent Fasting questions answered

Some questions that I had about IF hope that you read the last IF blog and it may have peaked in your interest, heck maybe you even went a head and ordered Eat Stop Eat (highly recommend it). For today I’m going to go over some of my initial questions that I’ve had when I began researching IF.

You need to eat every three hours to keep your metabolism up:

This initial question was the my very first response to IF. I mean come on we have all heard it that we need to eat small frequent meals to lose weight, this has been posted in just about EVERY website, magazine and news series about weight loss. I remember this was the first thing that was ingrained in my head as a young gym rat.

Ever felt like your day was tied to the clock with food?

So I thought, heck I’ll find plenty of research proving that small frequent meals promote weight loss and honestly its was very difficult to find research that really supported this. Weird huh?

You see when I did find a journal article that was cited small frequent meals as a case for weight loss I did real rescarch into the journal article, otherwords not just was was quoted to me but I wanted to read it myself… the entire thing. [Read more…]

To Eat or Not to Eat

So todays blog had taken me quite some time to write, honestly I must have written the thing a thousand times in my head and a few times on paper scratching it each and every time. Why? Well really this topic can go into so much detail that honestly I feel that I would be doing you an injustice if I didn’t cover all my bases and provide you with as much knowledge to allow you to have an educated opinion.

Now I’m just going to scratch the surface to peak your interest, I’ll save the really cool info for later blogs because honestly I could do a MAJOR rant on this. [Read more…]
