Another New Years Resolution?

Should you make a new years resolution to get in shape?

I’ve been torn between this for years because being in the fitness industry one of the BIGGEST new years resolutions there are is “getting in shape”.

You would think that those in the fitness industry would love this but honestly its a hit and miss; of course I love working with people that want to get their bodies better but what I don’t like is people just looking for that quick fix or making this just part of the thing you’re suppose to do every new year.

Other words a trend.

Working with a trainer is like being in a relationship, both people have to put in the work and if one person isn’t really into it then progress is minimal.

You could almost say that some of the new years resolution(ers) is like speed dating for a personal trainer lol.

NOW I’m not hating on this by any means, maybe I’ve just been jaded over the years, because I have had some AMAZING clients that decided to change their lives due to a resolution but there have been more misses.

So this brings me back to my original question.

Should you make a new years resolution to get in shape?

Yes.

Let me share with you a story that changed my perception on that.

“There was a man taking a morning walk at on the beach. He saw that along with the morning tide came hundreds of starfish and when the tide receded, they were left behind and with the morning sun rays, they would die.

The tide was fresh and the starfish were alive. The man took a few steps, picked one and threw it into the water. He did that repeatedly. Right behind him there was another person who couldn’t understand what this man was doing. He caught up with him and asked, “What are you doing? There are hundreds of starfish. How many can you help? What difference does it make?” This man did not reply, took two more steps, picked up another one, threw it into the water, and said, “It makes a difference to this one.”

You can take this story how ever you want and apply it to multiple facets of morality or life lessons, I’ve personally taken this to heart of multiple levels in my own life and it did alter my perception on a few things in the fitness industry, most notably new years resolutions.

As cliche as a resolution is that resolution has changed a number of people’s lives for the better, spurring them on to finally make and commit to a change.

Sure a number of people don’t stick to those resolutions, heck being in the fitness industry I’ve seen more than my share of those people, BUT to those that DID stick to that change that resolution made all the difference in the world.

So make a resolution, make a resolution to do whatever the hell you want to do.

Dream big, set insane goals, scare yourself a bit, set a resolution that will challenge you to be more and do more.

Scared of failure because you did it before?

So f—ing what!? You may not achieve everything you wanted (yet), BUT you’ll will achieve something and that something will be all the difference in the world to you.

I think that you find that the goals you did set were not as intimidating as you thought, from my experience most people tend to dream too small. But when you DO achieve that resolution, no matter how big or small you’ll be better, you’ll have moved forward to something that you wanted and it will give you the courage and perseverance to do it again, and again, and again.

“Success breeds success”

Even though a new years resolution can be cliche it may be the catalyst that you need to cause change and in the end no matter how cliche the result is what’s going to matter.

If you want to make a change this year and are tired of spinning your wheels and wasting time email me personally Travis@FitnessRevoltionRowlett.com and lets make you better than you thought you could be.
