Low Testosterone and Skinny Jeans Part 2

High Cortisol levels and low testosterone levels - Fitness Revolution Roweltt For Part 2 of the Testosterone and Skinny Jeans series I need to go over two other hormones that are responsible for having men turn into 16 year old girls and giving women so much trouble in dropping those body fat levels.

Here is Part 1 <===

High Cortisol Levels

If you’ve been following this blog for a bit of time now then you have heard me rant on cortisol on more than one occasion, but I can never seem to get enough info out to people about this darn hormone.

Cortisol is a hormone that is secreted during high levels of stress, when this happens it’s the cause increased bodyfat gain and muscle loss… the exact thing we are trying to avoid.

If I were to get a bit nerdy on you cortisol main function is to “increase blood sugar through gluconeogenesis (this is just one of the body’s ways to elevate blood surgar levels); suppress the immune system; and aid in fat, protein and carbohydrate metabolism… It also decreases bone formation” (1) I’ll put it this way, it IS essential for us to have cortisol in our systems but just like every other hormone in the body there has to be checks and balances.

In today’s society where high stress levels are just the day to day norm elevates cortisol and thus makes it near impossible to drop that excess body fat around your stomach and really start getting lean.

Tips to Lower Cortisol

  • AVOID stressful situations (if your friends or family stress you out fix it or get new ones… you think I’m kidding right? NO.)
  • Sleep at least 8 hours a night
  • Avoid long duration cardio (anything over 30min in my opinion)
  • Keep weight train sessions under an hour
  • Meditate
  • Get rid of Gluten
  • Find positive people
  • Laugh a lot more
  • Take a cortisol buffer

Adrenal FatigueAdrenal Fatigue and Low Testosterone - Fitness Revolution Rowlett

Adrenal fatigue and high cortisol levels go hand in hand, especially sine the adrenal system is what secrets cortisol.

Adrenal fatigue is just where your adrenal glands are over worked or exhausted and unable to produce the necessary amounts of hormones needed for fat loss and muscle gain. Your signs and symptoms can honestly range from: tiredness, trouble falling asleep at night or waking up in the morning, salt and sugar cravings, and needing stimulants like caffeine to get through the day.

Most people in today’s society are over worked, under rested, over stressed and overly hyped up on stimulates. This is a perfect storm to just cause those adrenal glands to be fried.

If you fit this bill and do NOT take action to correct this then losing those last few pounds and gaining the muscle you want is next to impossible.

Tips on How to Correct Adrenal Fatigue

  • Increase your Vitamin C intake
  • Sleep at least 8 hours a day
  • Get to bed at an early and consistent hour
  • Stop take all those stimulants
  • Reduce stress (notice a trend here)
  • Don’t train till failure
  • If you know that you’re going to have to succumb to stressful situations an adrenal supplement can help buffer the effects, BUT it’s not the cure all.

If you’ll notice all these steps listed above are typically what we view as a healthy lifestyle and a lot go hand in hand with Part 1 of our Testosterone and Skinny Jeans series. These tips and questions though are the exact methods I suggest when attempting to help a client out with these conditions and when you finally get these under control it’s not uncommon to see bodyfat just fall off and muscle come to life.

Don’t take these too lightly, if neither of these or remedied then I PROMISE you that you will NOT get as lean as you want. Really asses yourself and see if you fit the bill on any of these then I highly recommend that you take the nessary steps above because if you do you WILL notice a difference very quickly in the way you look and feel.
